RESIDENTS are invited to join the Mayor and Mayoress at Barnsley's annual Civic Carol service this Thursday.

The service will be held at St Mary's Parish Church at 4pm and the service will be led by Rev Canon Stephen Race, accompanied by the Mayor's Chaplain, Father Brian Bell.

Barnsley's Civic Choir will also be performing as well as the Barnsley Metropolitan Band who'll be performing a festive solo piece

The Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Steve Green, said: "We're really looking forward to holding our traditional Civic Carol service again this year and feel really honoured to be part of it.

"It's a lovely opportunity to bring our residents and local families together under one roof and then raise it with some traditional festive carols. We hope to see the church packed with families coming together to take a break from shopping and wrapping presents to reflect and celebrate before the big day itself.

"I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very healthy, happy Christmas and a very happy 2019."
