THE latest Community Shop opened its doors to customers in Hoyland for the first time yesterday.

A council spokesperson said: “We're happy to have supported this project as part of our Principal Towns and Local Centres Programme, helping provide people in Hoyland with a social supermarket, community café and learning and development spaces.

“The council co-funded Community Shop to bring back this prominent high street building back into use, with our contribution being supported by the UK Government's Household Support Grant.”

You can find the criteria for joining Community Shop here ( but everyone is welcome to visit the cafe and benefit from the Community Shop learning and development programmes.
