POLICE in Mexborough are encouraging the public to get involved with a new initiative designed to support and maintain falling levels of crime in the town.

The Mexborough Neighbourhood Network was officially announced yesterday with a launch event at Mexborough Library on John Street.

The group will bring together local volunteers, neighbourhood policing teams and councillors

Chief Inspector Gwynfor Thomas said: “We’re keen for people to come together, with their local neighbourhood policing team and councillors, to build a stronger and safer community from now and into the future.

“This is a real chance to make a difference in your local community and together we’ll be looking at how best we can reduce crime, develop a good community spirit and ultimately a safer environment to live and work in.

“Whether you’re interested in volunteering, or just want to find out more, please do come along and speak to us.”
