THE percentage of people receiving a positive result after a coronavirus test is on the rise.

Almost 6,000 residents are taking a PCR test - which are sent away to a lab - every week in Barnsley.

At the start of the month just 1.5 per cent of people were getting a positive test back, but latest figures show that 2.8 per cent of test results are coming back positive - a number that has constantly been rising.

More than 20,000 people have tested positive since the start of the pandemic - 346 of those have been this month.

Barnsley’s case rate per 100,000 residents is 71.3.
