A MEMORIAL service for bereaved parents has been altered to help comply with social distancing.

The baby memorial service will now be held on October 11 and families will be required to book time slots to access the chapel to pay their respects.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Hospice said: “We are sorry to announce that due to current Covid-19 restrictions we will be unable to hold a baby memorial service in the same way as we have done in previous years.

“In order to comply with current restrictions, the day will be broken down into allocated time slots for families to attend to pay their respects to their babies in the usual way.

“As always, candles will be available to light and hearts available to write babies' names on and hang on the tree.

“Families will be welcome to spend time in the memorial garden following their time in the chapel.”

The chapel will be open from 10am and will close to the public at 3.30pm.

At 4:30pm a memorial service will be conducted in the chapel which will be live-streamed across Barnsley Hospital social media.
