BARNSLEY Council bosses will next week accept £420,000 in funding to investigate a proposed scheme at Town End roundabout.

The ‘Dutch-style’ roundabout plans were first mooted in Barnsley back in 2021 but there was no exact location for the scheme until February.

If the plans are taken further, drivers must give way to bicycles when entering and exiting the roundabout at the red cycle lane that circles the junction.

All entry and exit roads feature narrowed lanes to encourage motorists to reduce their speed and take more time to adjust to other road users.

At a meeting next week, cabinet members will accept £420,000 in funding from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to progress the scheme.

A report states: “This scheme is still in early design so consultation exercises will be undertaken once details are known.”
