A DEDICATED fundraiser has been thanked by a local charity that he has been supporting for almost two decades..

Ian Lane has been collecting funds for Barnsley Hospice for 17 years.

The Kendray resident has become a well-known figure for his various community efforts, and was shortlisted at last year’s Proud of Barnsley for going out with his collecting bucket three days a week for the British Heart Foundation.

Alongside this though, the 58-year-old who lives at the Lavender Court supported living estate in Kendray, has been raising funds for Barnsley Hospice, and over 17 years has raised £1,985.14 through doing sponsored walks, darts matches and swims.

He said: “It’s great, I’m proud of myself and I know a lot of other people are proud of me too. My family and friends are happy with what I’ve done.”

Vicky Stead, community relationships manager at Barnsley Hospice added: “Ian has been fundraising for the hospice for many years, and we would like to say a big thank you for his fantastic support over this time.”
