A KEXBOROUGH man came up with a novel fundraising idea for Barnsley Hospital – simply ‘doing nothing’ for a year.

Tom Allott, 31, was inspired by his brother who had been fundraising and decided to ask his friends what he could do.

His friends at the Crown and Anchor pub, in Barugh Green, bet him that he couldn’t go without cutting his hair or shaving for a whole year.

Tom said: “I decided to take my friends up on the bet and set about literally doing nothing – not shaving or having my hair cut.

“It is quite unbelievable that I have done nothing and people have generously donated £500.

“I want to say a big thank you to Matt and the team at the Crown and Anchor who helped me collect the funds.”

Jane Mills, charity development manager at Barnsley Hospital, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Tom.

“Our fundraisers never fail to amaze us in the activities they take part in to help make a difference for our patients.

“A big thank you to Tom for his fundraising and to everyone who has supported him at the Crown and Anchor from the charity.”
