FLOOD alerts have been issued due to the ongoing heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has said that river levels are currently rising on the River Dearne with areas most at risk including Old Moor, Bolton Ings, Cudworth, Houghton and Wombwell Washlands.

The agency says flooding is possible from 8pm and 8am with a peak in Barnsley at 4am.

River levels are also forecast to rise on the River Don.

The agency says areas most at risk include the River Don and its tributaries from Penistone to Kelham Island in Sheffield.

Flooding is possible from 8pm until 6am, peaking at Penistone at midnight.

Further rainfall is forecast overnight with weather remaining unsettled throughout the rest of the weekend.
