HAVING made waves in Tokyo earlier in the year two local musicians are set to come home by popular demand.

Musician Graham Oliver has had an illustrious career since the formation of his first band Saxon back in 1975, playing Top of the Pops several times and being cited as one of Metallica’s inspirations.

The heavy metal rocker has gone through countless changes over the decades, now finding success with his new band Graham Oliver’s Army, who recently performed in Tokyo in a gig that saw Graham reunite with an old Saxon friend.

He said: “We had Paul Quinn as a special guest – that was the first event I’d done with him since about 1993.

“It’s been great to reconnect.

“The concert was brilliant, it was all professionally recorded and we put some photos on Facebook.

“Suddenly we had people asking to see more.”

Following the show’s incredible success, the two musicians decided to not cut their reunion short and planned an extra show for their fans back home.

A gig at Birdwell Venue has been organised for December 29 at 7pm, bringing Graham and Paul back to where their journey with music began.

“We were talking about it and it just seemed perfect to come home to Barnsley,” Graham added.
