A SHOW intended to bring the community together is coming to Dearne Playhouse in December.

The Heart of the Wood – a play that follows a young brother and sister travelling back in time to see how the coal their grandad mined was formed – brings together performing arts groups from across the community for a show that will run from December 8 to 10.

Supported by Barnsley Council, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the UK government’s Towns Fund through the Goldthorpe Town Deal Board, the play will feature young actors Joe Easton, Quinn Plews, Maisie Boyd and Kira Powell sharing the leading roles.

They will perform alongside Barnsley Metropolitan Band, the Kim Frost School of Dance, Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir, the Barnburgh Village Singers and choirs from local schools for a night that promises to show everything Dearne Valley has to offer.

Music director David Burridge said: “The Heart of the Wood is going to showcase the fabulous talent of the Dearne Valley community.”

Coun Robin Franklin, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, added: “It’s exciting that the opening night of this new production is approaching.

“How wonderful to be bringing together our talented actors, dancers and musicians to work with experienced theatre professionals and stage a magical and inspiring show in the heart of the Dearne Valley.

“I would encourage everyone to purchase their tickets for what promises to be a memorable spectacle and a thrilling trip to the theatre.”

Tickets are available via the Dearne Playhouse website and cost £2 each.
