THE South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is urging residents to apply for their Zoom passes for the upcoming year – and they’re set to pilot free public transport for young people.
Zoom under 16 and Zoom 16-18 concessionary travel passes provide proof of eligibility to travel for a discounted single journey fare of £1 on bus and tram, and half fare on Northern trains in South Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “There is talent and opportunity right across our region, but it is only by connecting the two that we will unlock South Yorkshire’s full potential.
“With the Zoom pass we can help to connect our young people with opportunities that will help them stay near and go far, while also saving families hundreds of pounds every year.
“That’s why it’s so important that everyone eligible gets their Zoom pass in time for the start of the new academic year.
“Zoom and Zoom Beyond help young people make the most of our current public transport network, but I’m determined to go further.
“I refuse to accept a situation where people living across South Yorkshire aren’t able to access opportunities in South Yorkshire.
“Later this year, I’ll be setting out further detail on how we’re creating an integrated transport system that really does connect our communities as well as more on our ambitious plans to pilot free public transport for young people.”
