Barnsley East MP Stephanie Peacock asked the government to support local football clubs – like Worsbrough Bridge – after last week’s devastating floods.

Ms Peacock spoke in Parliament about the flooding, after Worsbrough Bridge’s stadium flooded for the fifth consecutive year.

She said: “My heart goes out to everyone affected by flooding, in particularly in Barnsley – in Darfield, Wombwell, Worsbrough, Lundwood and Darton.

“Often the response to flooding is obviously fragmented by its nature because there are so many agencies involved from the emergency services, to the local authority.

“I would like to mention Worsbrough Bridge Football Club who have suffered flooding five years in a row – but because they are not a home or a business they often struggle to get support.

“What support can the government give to community organisations like football clubs?”
