A ROYSTON primary school celebrated a special anniversary in a novel way recently.

Meadstead Primary Academy, based on Meadstead Drive, celebrated their 50th anniversary since the opening of the school.

Pupils and staff came dressed as locals from the 1970s due to the school opening in 1973.

The school is part of a select group who have won two Proud of Barnsley awards.

The first came in 2018 and the second in 2021.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Meadstead Primary Academy celebrated 50 years since the opening of the school on Friday, September 8 with a fun-filled day including inflatables and fun activities.

“Pupils and staff came to school in 70s-style clothing to celebrate the opening in 1973.

A great day was had by all.”
