A CHARITY football match in memory of a young boy who died of a rare illness at just one-week-old raised more than £1,400.

The event took place at Athersley Rec’s Sheerien Park in memory of Dale Whitaker’s son Rowan, on what would have been his fifth birthday.

The week before, Dale was joined by his friends Luke Thomas and Matthew Strutt as they took on the Three Peaks challenge.

The two fundraisers have brought in around £3,000 – bringing the total amount raised in Rowan’s memory to more than £29,000.
