A BARNSLEY charity’s members will be participating in a 50-kilometre walk to raise vital funds on behalf of elderly people.

Age UK aim to visit as many towns and villages as possible throughout the course of the day, before finishing in Barnsley town centre in the evening.

Chief executive Debby Bunn said: “We are delighted to be doing the first 50km for the 50-plus this year and we hope that this will become an annual event to help raise much-needed funds or Age UK Barnsley.

“We are a fiercely independent local charity who rely on the generous donations of time and money from local people to help support the work that we do and enable us to provide services on behalf of older people.

“Every penny raised by us goes towards delivering our mission of making Barnsley the best possible place to grow older.”
