A DARFIELD care home held a ‘party in the car park’ event last weekend to remember loved ones who weren’t able to have a wake during the pandemic.

Staff from Thornhill House, on Church Street, organised the event to celebrates the lives of those who are no longer here.

Dawn Mason, at Wombwell Funeral Services, released doves to remember each loved one and families said the event helped bring closure.

A spokesperson from the care home said: “It was a great turn out – families said it was a really nice way of remembering and celebrating those who lost their life during the pandemic.

“Residents enjoyed live music and a cold beer.”

Sienna Haywood, ten, danced for residents and the money she received from families was donated back to Barnsley Hospice and the residents’ fund.

“It was lovely to see people so happy,” Sienna added.
