A BARNSLEY businesswoman teamed up with a soapstar to support a local women’s charity.
Laura Blackburn, owner of B Animated, recently welcomed Coronation Street actress Sally Carman to her County Way-based design studio to record a voiceover for Resolute Women’s Support Services.
The work will be showcased by Resolute whose members help women in Barnsley overcome issues around domestic abuse, mental health and alcohol and substance misuse at their open event at the Metrodome next month.
It will host over 40 supportive services that can provide help for women affected by domestic abuse.
Laura said: “I’m incredibly proud of where I come from so helping a local charity was a no-brainer to me.
“Resolute do amazing work in our community and I’ve really enjoyed working with them on this project.
“It was lovely to meet Sally, not only a patron of Resolute but also a fellow northern lass, and welcome her into my studio.
“I enjoyed every minute and it’s great to know we’ve done our bit to make a difference to a local charity and the women that they support.”
Sally said: “When Debbie, the charity’s founder, asked if I would consider being a patron of Resolute I immediately said yes.
“What Resolute are doing to help and support abused women and girls is invaluable it’s an honour to be a small part of this vital charity.”
The visit came after Sally, originally from Mexborough who plays the role of Abi Franklin in the ITV drama stopped by at Resolute after approaching its founder, Deborah Jones, to find out more about the group and how they operate.
Sally who is now a patron for Resolute had visited one of the group’s sessions in Barnsley after seeing her friend in a situation where she required Deborah’s help.
Sally added: “There is little to virtually no support for women who’ve fled an abusive relationship, which is why the charity want to do what they can so women know they’re not alone.
“Fleeing an abusive relationship can be very daunting no-one deserves to be alone through that ordeal.
