MORE parking patrols are set to take place across Barnsley to target inconsiderate motorists outside schools.

The five additional hours of patrols will take place across the South Area Council which includes Wombwell, Darfield, Hoyland and Birdwell wards.

It was revealed recently that 178 of the 196 parking charge notices (PCNs) handed out across the area were given to residents in Wombwell over a three-month period.

Only eight were handed out in Hoyland, nine in Darfield and one in Birdwell.

Coun James Higginbottom, spokesperson for environment and highways, said that members supported the additional patrols unanimously.

He added: “The issue of inconsiderate and illegal parking is one that is raised with me and my colleagues on a very regular basis by local people.

“I have heard stories of residents being unable to leave and enter their properties due to being blocked by vehicles and of ambulances and buses getting stuck.

“I know just how important this issue is to local residents.

“I have been working with local schools to raise awareness around the issue of inconsiderate and illegal parking.

“I was proud to move at a recent council meeting that Barnsley Council fund additional hours of parking enforcement in the south area that will focus specifically on tackling inconsiderate and illegal parking at our local schools.”
