TWO local libraries are set to be transformed with a £506,836 grant.
Both Darfield and Goldthorpe libraries will undergo massive refurbishments which will see the installation of new furnishing and changes to make the buildings more sustainable and energy efficient through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Darfield is expected to close from September 24 and Goldthorpe will be closed from the following day to allow the work to take place, with both reopening in the new year.
During this time, Barnsley Libraries will be offering extra support to those who need it, with the home library service available for anyone who cannot travel to an alternative library.
Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “Since the start of the refurbishment programme, we’ve made some great progress across the borough and we’re excited that our local communities will be able to enjoy two more updated branches.
“We remain committed to creating welcoming, exciting and sustainable places where people can meet, learn, study and work.”
