ALMOST 400 people have been admitted to Barnsley Hospital’s A and E department due to tooth decay over the latest three-year period.
A Freedom of Information request shows a total of 375 admissions were made to the hospital between April 2021 and April 2024 – the majority of whom were over 17 years of age.
In 2021/22 there were 119 admissions for people aged over 17 and 11 for those aged between five and 17.
The following year there were 107 admissions for adults and 11 for youngsters.
Whilst in 2023/24 there were 127 people admitted to the emergency department – though the age split is yet to be confirmed.
