A GROUP of fundraising grannies were joined by the Mayor of Barnsley on Thursday to celebrate raising £9,000 for Barnsley Hospice.
The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in Kingstone at 1pm every Thursday, and have held fundraisers from auctioning off pork pies to weekly events in a mission to initially raise £1,000 for the hospice.
Their grand total now sits at £9,000 after an afternoon of music and games at the group’s weekly meet up.
The Mayor of Barnsley Coun Mick Stowe joined the group to celebrate them hitting yet another milestone.
Group member Judy Holling, who has this year been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award, said: “We’ve been fundraising for Barnsley Hospice at the pub for 19 months now.
“We found out that one of the charities the new mayor is fundraising for is Barnsley Hospice and so we wanted to get him down to the pub as we’ve reached £9,000 in total.
“It’s a lot of money especially considering the situation at the moment.
“I never thought that we’d have ever been able to raise this much when we started.”
