AN Oscar-winning actor has been in Barnsley to film for a production which hits the big screens today.

Jim Broadbent who appeared in Harry Potter and Only Fools and Horses and Penelope Wilton, from After Life, are the main actors in The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

It is based on the book of the same name and is directed by BAFTA winner Hettie Macdonald.

The film tells the story of a man who leaves his seaside town in South Devon to deliver a message to an old friend.

He walked more than 500 miles to Berwick-upon-Tweed, calling off at Barnsley along the way.

They filmed in Staincross and Barnsley, as well as Chapeltown.

The film hits cinema screens today.
