A SUPPORT service – who operate similarly to a foodbank – are encouraging people who are struggling to make ends meet to use their services.

Community Fridge, which started around November time of 2021, run by a group of volunteers, operate from Mapplewell Village Hall Monday to Saturday and provide food to those who need a bit of extra support.

One of the volunteers, Leyla Nayeri, received a Proud of Barnsley Green Hero award in November last year and the team have continued offering their help since.

The volunteers’ prevent good quality food from going to landfill and being wasted – even sometimes collecting food for local farmers, animal charities and allotment owners.

They are open to everyone – no referral is needed, all the food is free and you can take what you need.

You can find their opening hours on their Facebook page or send them a message to find out more.
