HOUSEHOLDS in Barnsley are being urged to avoid cutting corners if they need to buy a replacement oil tank in the coming months.
The warning comes amid reports of residents purchasing DIY tanks in a bid to reduce costs in the midst of the cost-of-living crisis.
OFTEC, a registration body for off has grid heating, has raised its concerns.
Malcolm Farrow, from OFTEC, said: “Household budgets are understandably tight in the current cost of living crisis but when it comes to installing a new oil tank, doing it yourself is not only dangerous, but it can also have real practical implications.
“Fuel distributors may highlight issues with your tank and may refuse to deliver if they have concerns about your oil tank’s condition.”
