BARNSLEY College has celebrated its longest-serving staff in a ceremony under the light of Luke Jerram’s Mars installation.

The event celebrated the achievements of 170 staff who have served the college for at least ten years – with some even reaching 30.

Members of the college gathered in the atrium of the Old Mill Lane campus and shared memories of their time at the education hub.

Mel Jenkinson, director of student recruitment, has served 27 years at the college.

She said: “Does it surprise me that we have so many members of staff who have worked here for over a decade?

“Not at all.

“I have enjoyed every second of my time at Barnsley College and made lifelong friends, many of whom are also long-serving members of staff.

“This event has provided us with a fabulous opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces and celebrate our achievements together.”

Yiannis Koursis, principal and chief executive at Barnsley College, added: “We are very lucky to have so many long serving colleagues, whose years of dedication and commitment have helped to transform the lives of so many students and the wider community.

“Employees who have completed either 10, 20, 25 or 30 years of continuous service, are being rewarded for their dedication and loyalty.

“Together, they have contributed a whopping 2,764 years of service to Barnsley College and transformed countless lives across Barnsley through the power of education.

“That is definitely something to be proud of.”
