BARNSLEY Council is encouraging residents to speak up about domestic abuse in the run-up to Christmas.

Through their new Christmas campaign, dubbed Speak Up, the council is reminding people that although the festive people can bring families together, it isn’t always a happy time for everyone.

The council’s partners, IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services) offer help to support people in domestic abuse situations - and the new campaign hopes to lets residents know that there is someone there for them.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: “It’s important that everyone knows about the help and support available in Barnsley.

“If you’re in a domestic abuse situation, you are not alone - over the holidays, or at any other time of year.

“Support is there for you if you need it.”
