FROM April, apprentices across the borough will receive a pay increase.

The apprenticeship minimum age will increase from £4.30 to £4.81 and all employers must ensure that their apprentices are paid the increase.

The National Minimum Wage for apprentices applies to 16-18 year-old apprentices and those ages 19-and-over who are in the first year of their apprenticeship.

For other apprentices, the national minimum wage for their age group applies.

The minimum wage for other age groups will also raise and will the wage for workers ages 21to 24 rise from £8.36 to £9.18.

The National Living Wage for workers aged 23 and over will rise from £8.91 to £9.50.
