DRIVERS are being urged to make extra time for their journey after an accident has caused congestion to Tankersley.
An oil spillage occurred on the M1 between Junction 34 and Junction 35 this morning.
The section of motorway was closed by Highways England, but traffic has built up towards surrounding junctions.
Barnsley commuters are being urged to make extra time for their journey, or choose an alternative route to avoid the traffic.
A spokesperson for National Highways Yorkshire said: “South Yorkshire please be aware this incident is currently causing approximately 3.3 miles of congestion on the M1 South between J36 Tankersley and J35 Thorpe Hesley adding at least 30 minutes to normal journey times.”
As yet, no time has been given for when the affected junctions will reopen while the spillage is cleared.
