RISING costs and inflation hampered Berneslai Homes’ ability to carry out planned repairs and replacements, a report has revealed.
Over the last 12-month period, the organisation’s capital investment programme delivered improvements for more than 1,000 properties.
Work included making homes more energy efficient by replacing items such as boilers and adding insulation to properties.
Under the Barnsley Homes Standard - which ensures that all properties in Barnsley are to a ‘decent’ standard - Berneslai Homes spent around £11.4m on almost 1,300 homes.
But inflation has had an impact on the service.
A report said: “Rising costs because of higher inflation rates has caused materials and supply chain prices to rise, impacting on our ability to carry out planned repairs and replacements.
“We’ve also improved communications with tenants awaiting a planned repair or programmed replacement.”
