THE Age Friendly Barnsley Festival has been hailed a success by bosses after residents flocked to events last month.

A celebration of ‘the positive and enjoyable’ side of later life and the enormous contribution of older people in society, the festival led up to International Older People’s Day on October 1.

There were many events throughout the week including walking football and bowls matches - but the big highlight for many was the six council area-based Love Later Life Better events.

These included fun activities alongside helpful information for those who attended.

Age UK Barnsley CEO Jane Holliday added: “Age Friendly communities make it possible for people to continue to stay living in their homes, participate in the activities they value, and contribute to their communities, for as long as possible.”
