A CAFE owner from Monk Bretton believes that lockdown has shown the kindness of local residents who have been anonymously paying for other people’s food.
Maggie Wood, who owns Maggie’s Cafe on Tennyson Road, has remained open during the lockdown for takeaway food.
She said: “We’ve recently started offering afternoon tea to take away and a lovely customer came in and offered a £20 note asking to pay forward a couple of afternoon teas for two people who need a little bit of cheering up.
“After thanking them, we put a post up on Facebook asking people to nominate deserving people to receive these wonderful gestures.
“The response was overwhelming, so many deserving people, then another lovely lady paid forward another two afternoon teas – people are so kind.
“I honestly believe people are getting kinder and kinder during the pandemic. It’s the people you often wouldn’t expect.
“A lot of young people have not wanted to make a fuss, but help out someone who may be struggling. It’s absolutely brilliant.
“We would just like you to thank everyone for their support and kindness throughout these dreadful times.”
