COUNCIL bosses are appealing for critical workers to take part in a rapid testing programme which could help identify asymptomatic residents from across the borough.
The programme is designed for workers who cannot work from home.
Anyone taking part will be invited to twice-weekly testing appointments to help identify asymptomatic cases and help reduce the spread of the virus.
A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “Broadening testing to identify people who have no symptoms (asymptomatic) means we can find positive cases quicker and can break chains of transmission.
“Alongside tests for NHS frontline staff, social care and other critical settings, testing of asymptomatic individuals can help suppress coronavirus within our communities.”
