A POPULAR family fundraising event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Barnsley Bubble Rush is organised by Barnsley Hospice and is the biggest fundraiser in their calendar, seeing families complete a 5km bubble-filled fun run at Locke Park.

However, due to the pandemic, the race – which was set to be run on July 12 – has been cancelled.

A spokesman for Barnsley Hospice said: “It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we know that many families in Barnsley look forward to the event as much as we do.

“However, the safety of our supporters – and our staff and volunteers – must come first. It is also unlikely that government restrictions will permit mass gatherings such as the Bubble Rush by the scheduled date.”

Last year the event raised more than £16,000 which went towards patient care.
