A FESTIVAL celebrating art made by the local community has been moved online.

The Dearne Community Arts Festival, set to take place at Astrea Academy Dearne in Goldthorpe on September 26, will instead consist of exhibits submitted to festival secretary Julie Turner and displayed over the internet.

“We’re very aware that people are nervous about large gatherings at the moment, but we also know there’s tons of creativity going on in our communities as people in lockdown have found great encouragement and benefits from arts and crafts,” said Julie.

“So we intend to continue championing creativity and celebrating community by inviting people to send us photos and videos of all they’ve been doing and then exhibiting these online on September 26 instead.

“We also hope that many of the performers and workshop leaders who were booked to appear at the festival will send us videos demonstrating their skills and showing us how to do those things.

“So we’ll be looking at hot wax painting, sand art, face painting, balloon art and other creative crafts just as we would have done at the festival, and we also hope to have videos of artists performing, again, just as we would have done in person.”

Send all photos and videos to Julie at julie@gpcchurch.co.uk or phone 07729 421405 for further details of how you can get involved, including passing on physical works if it’s not possible to do so by email.
