POSTAL workers from Wombwell have raised £2,000 for Barnsley Hospice by delivering parcels while in fancy dress.

Last week, Royal Mail staff ditched their regular uniforms to become superheroes and disco dancers.

Teri England, one of the workers, said: “We were inspired by seeing a few posties around the country dressing up for fun and we wanted to get involved.

“I had seen the appeal from Barnsley Hospice where it was clear they were struggling during the outbreak, and I knew we had to help out to raise funds.

“Barnsley Hospice has touched us all at some point in our lives and it’s a local cause, so it was special to us.”

Teri said the highlight of the day was making people laugh while they were self-isolating at home.

“It’s so important to keep everyone’s spirits up at a time like this. The look on people’s faces when we turned up in fancy dress was fantastic, it made it all worth it.

“I must admit, I got quite emotional throughout the day with people’s support as we were delivering around the community.

“The support was unbelievable. On the day of the walk alone, people donated around £320 to us. It brought a tear to my eye.

“We only started the fundraiser last week, so to see this amount of money raised in just six days is incredibly emotional.

“We intend to do this every year now because of its success. We want to thank everyone who donated and raised this amount for a worthy cause.”
