CAR owners have been granted a six month exemption from MOT testing from March 30, the Government has announced.
Due to the public being advised to only travel if it’s essential, the exemption will stop motorists going out to make sure their car is road-legal.
The government also stated that the exemption will ‘enable vital services such as deliveries to continue, frontline workers to get to work, and people get essential food and medicine’
The exemption will apply to cars, motorcycles and vans, however vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps said: “Safety is key, which is why garages will remain open for essential repair work.”
Drivers that are caught driving unsafe vehicles will face prosecution.
