A DRUNK driver who failed to provide a specimen after crashing her car has been banned from driving.

Sandra Heritage, 59, of Wellfield Grove, Penistone, pleaded guilty to the offence which took place on December 19, after she had been out drinking with friends.

Heritage had attempted to drive home but collided with a road’s central reservation at around 10.45pm.

When police approached the car, she was ‘clearly under the influence’ and had trouble speaking to the officers or exiting the vehicle.

Brian Bushell, defending, said she was of ‘impeccable past character’ and had recently separated from her partner which may have influenced her actions.

He added: “She feels sad to say this incident has been the shock she needed to start to pull herself together.”

Heritage was disqualified from driving for 16 months and ordered to pay a fine of £400, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £40.

She was offered a four-month reduction on the ban if she completes a driver rehabilitation course.
