A SOCIAL group that is specifically targeted at men is looking for new members to help support well-being and social engagement.

Happy Hour is the newly launched social group for men of any age, background or community which aims to keep men talking.

The group has increased in numbers since it started in November 2019, with more men attending the sessions every week to eat, socialise and have a cup of tea.

The sessions, held by Athersley Cares and Social Prescribing, are an open forum where men can bring a topic of discussion, play a game of dominoes and have weekly speakers that are all agreed upon by the group.

One member of the Happy Hour group said: “There is no pressure and no set agenda.

“The sessions are definitely what we make them because they are a safe place where we all have each other’s back.

Another member of the group, said: “There are lots of groups like this, but they all target everyone, rather than just men.

“Men can often be the most vulnerable to social isolation and yet it doesn’t seem to be tackled as often.

“We welcome new members to the group, and would love to see the group continue to grow.”

Happy Hour is held every Thursday from noon at St Helen’s Church Hall in Athersley.
