AN investigation has been launched after a man was found with severe facial injuries in Wombwell Woods.

At 5pm on Tuesday April 16, a dog walker found a 30-year-old man seriously injured in Wombwell woods near to Woodhead Lane.

The dog walker is said to have given the man directions to Hoyland and officers are keen to speak to the person who helped the man, as he could assist with enquiries.

A police spokesperson said: "Police also want to speak to anyone who used the roads through the woods overnight from 7pm on Monday April 15 to 5.40am the following morning.

"Did you see any vehicles parked nearby or see or hear a disturbance taking place? The exact circumstances around how the man sustained his injuries are still being investigated but officers suspect he may have been assaulted.
