OVER 8000 street lights are set to be replaced over the next three years

A street lighting replacement programme aims to replace 8,480 inefficient old lanterns with energy efficient LED units.

Consultations and a notice of works will be promoted with area councils, local members and residents as appropriate.

Coun Roy Miller said: “We have over 33,000 street lights in Barnsley, and almost 9,000 of these are lighting for main traffic routes. The remaining lights are based throughout residential roads in the borough.

"The street light investment programme will offer suitability for the longer term and deliver a quality highway asset by repairing and maintaining the network. It will also help us to provide a safer and better experience for highway users.”
