PLANNING ROUND-UP: Plans to install a four-metre-high public art column have been approved by the council.

An application was submitted last year to erect the column, topped with a sheep, on Barnsley Road in Penistone. The plans confused locals, as well as councillors, who called for the plans to be withdrawn. Amended plans were subsequently submitted, and the column will now be topped by a shepherd with his dog.

PLANS to convert a Wombwell building into eight flats have been turned down by Barnsley Council’s planning board. An application was submitted in November for the work to take place on High Street. However, following public consultation and a discussion by the council’s planning board, the plans were turned down last week.

A CUDWORTH cake shop is set to be converted into a dog grooming parlour after plans to change the site were deemed acceptable by the council. An application was submitted earlier this year for the property on Barnsley Road to be converted. Following public consultation, these plans were given the green light by the council’s planning board last week.

PLANNING permission is being sought to erect four new properties in Carlton. If approved, the houses will be built on Carlton Road. A total of nine neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on April 1.

PLANS to refurbish Worsbrough Library have been approved by the council. An application for work to take place at the library on Queensway in Worsbrough Bridge were originally submitted in July. The plans were approved last week, meaning the library will become the latest in a series of refurbished sites across the town.

PLANS to convert a former Kingdom Hall – a religious temple used by Jehovah’s Witnesses – into a retail area have been approved by the council. The venue is on Carlton Road, Carlton which it’s understood has not been used for a number of months, with the congregation now gathering in the town centre. The proposals put forward aim to convert the building into a retail space for the Grafter’s Warehouse. Plans were originally submitted in November, before Barnsley Council’s planning board gave the application the green light last week.

PLANS to expand a community centre in Penistone have been submitted to the council’s planning board. If approved, a number of outbuildings will be demolished at St John’s Community Centre in Penistone. Two extensions to the community centre will then be built to replace them. A total of seven neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans, with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on March 29.

PLANS to build two industrial units in Hoyle Mill have been approved by the council’s planning board. The units – which are for storage, distribution and industrial uses – will be built on a vacant site off Beevor Street. An application was originally submitted in February 2022, before the plans were given the green light by Barnsley Council earlier this month.

PLANS to erect two new signs at the entrance of a Wombwell beauty haven have been approved by the council. An application was submitted in December last year for the signage to be placed at the RSPB site on Old Moor Lane. These plans were given the green light by the council’s planning board last week.

PLANS to repair a battlement wall at Wentworth Castle Gardens have been submitted to the council. If approved, the work will take place at the Stainborough site. Public consultation on the application ends on April 1.

PLANS to demolish a property in Royston and replace it with another have been submitted to the council. If approved, the work will take place on Church Hill. A total of eight neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on Thursday.

PLANS to add a balcony to a property in Hemingfield have been submitted to the council. If approved, work will take place on a property on Cemetery Road. A total of 14 neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on March 26.
