BARNSLEY College bosses have been forced to temporarily stop students using their emails outside of college hours after they were targeted by a scam.
Students were being asked to pay outstanding tuition fees, leaving the college to urge them not to click on anything they believe could be a scam.
A spokesperson said: “After some of our students were targeted by illegitimate emails to verify their account or pay outstanding tuition fees, as a precaution, students will not be able to access their Microsoft 365 accounts when they are not on the college wi-fi.
“This is to allow checks and maintenance to be carried out on the college network before we are able to re-open this to external users.
“Once this function is available again, we’ll provide a further update.
“Whilst communicating this over the weekend, some students may have accidentally received a text message about snow. This was due to a system error and we apologise to anyone who received this message.”
