EMPLOYEES at Wates gathered together to raise a whopping £3,815 through a charity golf event.

Taking place in October at Hillsborough Golf Club, the money was raised for Barnsley Hospice and Barnsley Blind and Partially Sighted Association (BBPSA), Mayor of Barnsley Coun Mick Stowe’s two chosen charities.

Alongside the 72 golfers, friends and family organised a a raffle, auction and bake sale with homemade cakes.

Wates Family Enterprise Trust – an independent charitable organisation – agreed to match the funds raised, doubling the total made on the day.

Organiser Kay Parker-Oakley said: “It was brilliant. It’s the second time we’ve run it so we’re getting used to it now.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had a good amount of people attend – there was also good weather which is always needed for golf.

“I’m currently trying to sort out the next one, but it’s hard organising a time and place to get everyone together.

“Many thanks to everyone that was involved and donated in many ways, we have such very kind caring amazing people in the community.”
