BARNSLEY Council have confirmed that Armed Forces Day will not be forgotten in the town – after the firm behind Penistone’s event disbanded.
The long-running event is ran by Tri Veterans’ Services CIC – but the firm is set to cease trading.
Subsequently, the annual event which was scheduled to take place on June 22 has now been cancelled.
A spokesperson for the event said: “We are very sorry to disappoint everyone that was looking forward to attending our event.
“All stall holders and traders will be contacted shortly to discuss current bookings and any refunds that may be due.
“All entertainment acts and other booking will also be contacted shortly.
“We would like to thank you all for your help and support over the last few years in making our event a success, and helping us to help and support local veterans and their families.”
Barnsley Council have confirmed they will address residents’ concerns.
A spokesperson said: “We are disappointed by the news that Veterans Tri-Services CIC, the dedicated organiser of the Armed Forces Day event in Penistone, will be disbanding.
“Having collaborated closely with them over the years, we truly appreciate their commitment.
“To address concerns about Armed Forces Day, we want to assure everyone that it will not be forgotten in our borough.
“Just as we did last year, we are committed to organising an event as part of our ongoing support to the Armed Forces community.”
