STAFF from a Kendray nursery have raised more than £1,300 for Barnsley Hospital’s neonatal unit fund.

Last month 22-year-old Joshua Jennings from Wombwell, who works at St Joseph’s Day Nursery on Doncaster Road, came up with the team building idea of raising funds for the hospital.

He said: “I thought of the neonatal unit in appreciation of the primary care they give to babies and families some of them who attend our nursery.

“I thought if we are fundraising then it has to be a real challenge so we set the target of a 40km walk for 14 of us to undertake.”

The team took on the challenge, with each of the 14 staff making it to more than 20km of walking.

Just three of the staff managed to finish the challenge – Joshua and his colleagues Chelsea Evans and Courtney Yates.

They originally set out to raise £200 but managed to smash the target and hand over a cheque worth £1,357.

Jane Mills, charity development manager, said: “We send a big thank you to Joshua and all of the team at St Joseph’s, we love that the idea came as a team builder and now the team would like to do something each year.

“They are amazing.”
