A TEENAGE girl has been left with serious injuries after a car collided into a wall outside a Pogmoor beauty salon before bricks were launched through the window ‘like shotgun bullets’ causing tens of thousands of pounds of damage.
On November 2 at around 3.45pm, a car collided into OKU Beauty Salon on Pogmoor Road and the owner, Debbie Thompson, said the time since then has been ‘horrific’.
A 16-year-old girl called Darcy who works at the salon suffered two fractured ribs and a punctured lung, and Debbie said they’re lucky they are just arranging a refurbishment and not a funeral.
“It’s been an horrific time,” she said.
“I was in the cinema with my little girl when I was told what had happened and my world just came crashing down.
“When the car has crashed it’s demolished a wall and one of our girls who’s 16 has been really injured.
“She’s at home now but she was in hospital for a time because the impact was horrendous.
“When it collided into the wall the impact saw bricks fly into the salon it was like someone was firing a shotgun.
“They were running away from it all and were terrified.
“The police said that the wall being there has saved their lives.
“I had two clients in there as well.
“If anything we’ve got off lightly we could have been arranging a funeral.”
Debbie estimated the total damage to be around £40,000 when including loss of earnings.
“I’ve lived in Barnsley for the last 15 years and I’ve never seen anything like this happen before,” she said.
“I’m just in limbo at the moment.
“Luckily it was in half-term because if it had happened recently then there’d have been hundreds of school kids walking past at that time.”
Debbie is keen to make the best out of a horrible situation.
“We are open but some of the girls are scared to come back in and I can’t blame them,” she said.
“I went to see Darcy recently and it was hurting her to get off the sofa.
“It’s just such a terrible situation.”
South Yorkshire Police declined to comment.
