A DEFIBRILLATOR in situ outside a popular barber shop in the town centre is now up and running again thanks to donations from the public.
Back in 2019 Tony Batty, owner of Tony’s Barbers on Racecommon Road, began to raise funds for a defibrillator after realising the lack of life-saving equipment in and around the town centre.
Having been installed later that year, it was stolen after being in place for just a few months but later returned.
The equipment has now been in place outside his shop for the last four years - but the battery life is typically two to five years.
With the help from local residents, donations have ensured the defibrillator will be in use for a little longer.
He said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all who donated to Racecommon Road’s defibrillator.
“It’s all back up and running for the safety of local people.
“We also raised an extra £236 towards the upkeep from donation from my dad’s funeral.”
