BARNSLEY Hospice took second spot at this year’s Sky Bet Ebor Festival Community Sweepstake and received £5,000.

As part of the joint initiative between York Racecourse and Sky Bet, the sweepstake rewards local good causes from across Yorkshire and acknowledges their hard work within the community.

Barnsley Hospice picked out the favourite but ended up finishing second – receiving a total of £5,000.

Martine Tune, CEO and chief nurse at the hospice, said: “We are here for people from the point of diagnosis and throughout their palliative care journey, including at the end of their life.

“The £5,000 donation will be put towards refurbishing patient rooms, enhancing their environment, and ensuring they feel at home during their time with us.”
