EQUIPMENT at a community facility used by families has been targeted by vandals – spurring Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police into action.
A fixed exercise machine – based at Hoyland Common Recreation Ground – was ‘damaged beyond repair’ last week.
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “This is a community facility enjoyed by many residents and it is extremely frustrating when we hear of this type of senseless damage in our parks.
“We work closely with our partners at South Yorkshire Police to tackle vandalism and identify offenders.
“We don’t tolerate such acts of vandalism in our beautiful borough and where possible, we encourage all our residents to report any information or concerns to us or the police.”
